David Ospina and Juan Guillermo Cuadrado are the new owners of Fortaleza
Javier Hernández Bonnet, director of Blog Deportivo, revealed on the radio program that players David Ospina and Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, along with former player Lucas Jaramillo, are now the new owners of Fortaleza, a club that is part of the second division of Colombian Professional Soccer.
According to the journalist, the conversations to make these renowned figures of Colombian soccer part of the new owners of Fortaleza have been taking place for a few days. It was also known that in the last hours a «good agreement, closure of the operation» was reached.
«David Ospina and Juan Guillermo Cuadrado own over 50% of the team along with a couple more partners (…) They are the largest shareholders of the Colombian First B Division team: Fortaleza,» Hernández Bonnet detailed in Blog Deportivo, of Blu Radio.
At the moment, Fortaleza, David Ospina, Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, nor Lucas Jaramillo have spoken out about this news on their social media. However, it is clear that these athletes are committed to Colombian soccer, strengthening the academy and developing talents that can become national or international figures in the future.
This is the first time that Colombian players have bought a team in the country, as James Rodríguez had already tried with his stepfather, but the ownership of that club ended in a legal dispute. That is to say, in this case, the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) and the Dimayor had to endorse this change in ownership of the capital team.
The new owners of Fortaleza join the economic group that recently acquired Atlético Huila, who are the same as those of Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle, which is now the team that contributes the most players to the national team of that country and has become a reference in South America, having already won international titles from Conmebol.
